Honor the men and women of the Armed Forces when you participate in the 10th Annual Memorial Day 5K Hike. The family-friendly event kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, 5/24, with a hike that begins at JD Hamel Park and crosses the Ringling Bridge before circling back. Then the rest of the day is devoted to a cookout, musical entertainment, and kids' activities. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 day of the event, with all proceeds going to SRQ Vets, a non-profit that provides resources to local veterans and their families.

Summer is a season of festivals, and the St. Armands Fine Art Festival is back for a fourth year. Local and national artisans gather to create an outdoor gallery against the scenic backdrop of St. Armands Circle, known as the "Jewel of Sarasota." Find a unique gift for a friend, family member, or yourself among works in a variety of mediums, ranging from painting and sculpture to photography and woodworking. The festival is scheduled for Saturday, 5/24, and Sunday, 5/25. Hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. both days, and admission is free.

The holiday celebration wouldn't be complete without Sarasota's popular Memorial Day Parade. Beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, 5/26, assembled members of law enforcement agencies, veterans' groups, and other organizations will proceed down Main Street to JD Hamel Park for a ceremony that includes a keynote speaker. Admission is free.
